Anna Beshnova was murdered on October 1, 2008, in the west of Moscow, just a few steps away from her apartment block. She was attacked on the way home after spending the evening with friends. One of the most chilling facts concerning the case is that, as was later revealed, there were several eyewitnesses – none of whom called the police, Russian Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper says.
